In the name of God Amen. I Mervil Mosley of Goochland County being very Sick and Weak in body but of perfect sence and memory thanks be given to God, therefore calling to mind the mortality of my Body and knowing that it was appointed for all men once to Dye, do make and ordain this my Last Will and Testament, that is to say principly & first of all I give and recommend my Soul into the hands of God that gave it and as touching my worly Estate wherewith it hath pleased God to Bless me in this life, I give and Dispose of in the manner and form following: Imprimis. I lend and bequeath to my loving and well beloved Wife Mary Mosley during her natural life the Land whereon I now live & Negroes & all the rest of my Estate and that she should be peacibly and Quietly posess't with it during her life, and at her Decease my Land I give to my four sons to be Equally divided amongst them. Item. I give
and bequeath to my yougest son Joseph Mosley the Plantation whereon I now live, and that my two Daughters Avey Mosley & Phebey Mosley should have Lawful Possession during their single lives. Item. I give and bequeath tomy three Daughters, heareafter mentioned Agatha Mosley, Avey Mosley, & Phebey Mosley each of them a Feather Bed & furniture, to them their heirs and assigns forever. Item. I give and bequeath all the rest of my personal Estate to my seven Children, heareafter mentioned to be Equally divided amongst them at there disceassion Viz. Agatha Mosley, Avey Mosley, Wm. Mosley, Samuel Mosley, Jas. Mosley, & Joseph Mosley, and as to my two Daughters Josabed Nash and Judith Thurston, I have allready given them a full part of my Estate which they have re'd and had; and I also desire in this my Last Will and Testament that my Estate may not be brought to an appraisment; I do likewise constitute and appoint my Loving Wife Mary Mosley and my Daughter
Avey Mosley & my Son Joseph Mosley to be my whole and Sole Executors of my Estate. In Witness whereof I have heareunto set my Hand and affixed my Seal this twenty second Day of March, In the year of our Lord, one thousand seven hundred and fiftytwo. Goochland County, Virginia Wills & Deeds 1737-1742, Book 3, pages 49-50, dated 16 August 1737
Jonas Lawson of the County of Goochland, planter, sold to John Bostick, for 15 pounds, two hundred acres of land on the North side of James River between the two Byrd Creeks, adjacent George Payne, Arthur Hopkins, Robert Horsely and William Coals. Witnesses were James George, Joseph Pace and David Bunch. Signed Jonas (X) Lawson. Recorded 16 August 1737.
Goochland County, Virginia Wills & Deeds 1737-1742, Book 3, pages 50-51, dated 16 August 1737
Jonas Lawson of the County of Goochland am hold and firmly bound unto John Bostick of the said county in the sum of 30 pounds Virginia money. Witnesses were James George, Joseph Pace and David Bunch. Signed Jonas (X) Lawson. Recorded 16 August 1737.
Goochland County, Virginia, Order Book 8, pages 386-387. The last Will and Testament of John Bostick deceased, was presented in Court by David Lawson the Executor who made Oath thereto and the same was proved by the Oaths of James George and Thomas Poor, witnesses and admitted to record. And on the Motion of the said Executor, certificate is granted him for obtaining a probate thereof in due form, James George and John Mosely entering themselves securities for the same.
The Court also ordered that Joseph Pace, William Pace, William Johnson and John Pace or any three of them appraise the estate of John Bostick deceased and that his Executor do return an inventory thereof to the next court.
GOOCHLAND COUNTY, VA deed May 21, 1745
John and Sarah DENNY to Jeremiah Wade John Denny sold to Jeremiah Wade for forty five pounds 150 acres at Great Byrd Creek on John Martin’s line to Ebenezer Adams line. Road to be clear’d Ordered that Joseph Pace be surveyor of the Road from the Bridge on the Bird Creek to the Crooked Falls on the Rivanna the Titheables to work on the same are Mr. Grays, Collo.
