Notes - The pension application of John Dill states that he was born in Kent Co DE on 25 Nov 1759 and moved to Caswell Co NC as a small boy. He entered the revolutionary army from Caswell Co, then called Orange Co, in 1779. He served under Lt. Oldham, Capt. Davet, the regiment of Col. Martin in the NC militia, for 9 months. The application was made in Oct 1832 at the age of 73.
John Dill died intestate owning 200 acres of land adjoining Lancelot Johnson and Ezekial Paschall. John's heirs filed a petition to divide this land which names John's surviving children and grandchildren. This petition names only two children, Archy and Jane, as heirs at law. John H. Dill, who is believed by many to be a son of John, is not named as an heir. Records also show that John H. Dill was born in 1809. The 1810 census of Caswell Co. shows the household of John Dill with 1 male 45 and up, 2 females under 10 and 1 female 45 and up. John Dill had no young male children in his household in 1810. John H. Dill is likely a relative, but not a child of John Dill.

To the worshipful the Justices of the Court aforesaid
Joseph Dill, Noah Cobb and wife Gincy, David Strader and wife Hannah Alex Walker and wife, James Dill and Rachal Paschall

Humbly complaining show to your worships that some years ago John Dill late of said County died intestate sized [sic] and possessed of a tract of land in Caswell County adjoining the lands of Lancelot JohnsonEzekial Paschall and others, containing about 200 acres; that the said John Dill left him surviving as his heirs at Law two children Archy Dill and Jane; that the said Archy Dill has also departed this life and left as his heirs at Law Jo Dill Noah Cobb and wife Gincy David Strader and wife Hannah, Alex Walker and wife and James Dill to whom the land inherited by their father Archy from John Dill deceased; that Lancelot Johnson has purchased the interest of James Dill and has a deed for the same.
Your petitioners further shows That Jane the daughter and other heir at Law of John Dill has also departed this life and left but one child and heir at Law to wit your petitioner Rachal Paschall, to whom has descended the interest in the aforesaid tract of land of John Dill.
Your petitioners therefore pray your worships to order five free holders to lay off and divide the lands descending from John Dill into twoshares and assign and allot one share to the heirs of Archy Dill and the other to Rachall Paschall and to report to the next term of this Court and grant such other and further relief as the Justice of the Court may require as is duty.

Ex Parte
This cause coming up to be heard upon the pleadings arguments and proofs, it is ordered and adjudged by the court that the lands mentioned in the pleadings as descending from John Dill be divided into two equal parts in value; that one part be allotted to the heirs at Law of Archy Dill; and that the other part be allotted to Rachall Paschall heir at law of Jane Dill.
It is further ordered by the Court that James Haralson, Jesse Owen, John Powell Thomas Reid and James Walker be and are hereby appointed commissioners to divide the said lands as above directed and report to the next Term of this Court under their bonds and seals in what manner they have performed this order. This 10th of January 1854.
