  • Notes

    • Thomas Dodson was born in October 1707 in North Farnham Parish. He married Elizabeth Rose April 3, 1724 in North Farnham Parish. They had twelve children including Elizabeth and her twin sister Sarah.

Between 1728 and 1733, Thomas Dodson was involved in a number of land transactions, primarily in Richmond County. On November 28, 1728. at the age of 21, he purchased a 50 acre tract of land from William and Ann Rout for 1200 pounds of tobacco. Richmond County Virginia Deed Book 8, p. 473. William Creel witnessed the deed. On August 6, 1733, Thomas Dodson acquired a 30 acre tract of land from Abraham Dale and his wife Winifred for 600 pounds of tobacco. Richmond County Virginia Deed Book 8, p. 660. On December 6 -7, 1733, Thomas Dodson conveyed the 30 acre tract acquired from William and Ann Rout to Jonathan Lyell. Thomas's father (also named Thomas) conveyed a 100 acre tract of land to Jonathan Lyell in the same transaction. Richmond County Virginia Deed Book 9, pp. 11-12. On May 5-6, 1734, Bartholomew Richard Dodson and his wife Eliza conveyed a 150 acre tract in Richmond county to Thomas Dodson for 4500 pounds of tobacco. Richmond County Virginia Deed Book 9, p. 21.

It is believed that Thomas Dodson Jr. migrated to the area that is now part of Fauquier County some time around 1735. At that time Thomas signed a Power of attorney to ______ to tend to his affairs while he was away. There is a gap in our research regarding Thomas Dodson between 1735 and the 1760s.
