Tax List in 1782 with sons James Bennett and Thomas Bennett. He is listed as untithable. William Bennett would have been about 79 years of age at the time. In an earlier deed in Pittsylvania Co. William's son Thomas Bennett is described as being from Montgomery Co. William's son James is listed as a landowner. These facts suggest that William Bennett moved to Montgomery Co. in his later years with sons James and Thomas. James and Thomas eventually returned to Pittsylvania County. It is likely that William Bennett died in Montgomery County before their return to Pittsylvania County. The DAR Patriot Index indicates that William Bennett died in 1783, probably in Montgomery Co.
