I found further evidence supporting my theory that Reuben Kennon is the father of Jane Dill. Apparently, Reuben Kennon died leaving a large estate and a lot of hard feelings (fortunate for us). Court battles over the estate lasted until the early 1870s. In one court battle Thomas P Bowman and Therry Bowman sued the administrator of Reubin's estate claiming that Reuben received money as guardian of Therry while she was a minor. As you recall, a Thursday Ann Kennon married Thomas P. Bowman in 1856 and Eliza Bowman was named as Jane's niece in the 1880 census. In another court battle, the administrator sued Joseph B. Kennon and Thomas Bowman for $2000.
Thomas Bowman and Joseph Kennon acknowledged the debt but claimed an offset for their distributive share in the estate of Reubin Kennon as his next of kin. I think this is pretty compelling evidence that Therry Bowman is the daughter of Reuben Kennon. (email from Dave Bennett, 3/19/2006) [2]
