      IN THE NAME OF GOD AMEN. I LEMUEL LOFTIS of Greenville District and State of South Carolina being of infirm health but of sound mind and memory and calling to mind that it is ordained for all men once to die do make and ordain this my last will and testament in manner and form following.
      Item 1st. I give and bequeath to my beloved wife Susannah Loftis my plantation that I now live on also two negroes by name Soloman and Alsa one cart and yoke of oxen one horse, two cows and calves two feather beds and furniture six head of hogs and as much of the household and kitchen furniture as will be sufficient for a comfortable support during her own natural life also all my stock of ready money.
      Item 2nd. I give and bequeath to my beloved son Pleasant A. Loftis one negro boy named Gilbert.
      Item 3rd. The balance of my estate consisting of one negro girl named Lurana together with all my stock of horses cattle hogs and sheep household and kitchen furniture to be sold and on a credit of twelve months and the money arising from said sale to be equally divided between my beloved children by name Martha Green, Prudence Dill Madison D Loftis Sarah L West, Lottyann Crane Spartan L Loftis Achsah Few and Pleasant A Loftis.
      I also nominate and appoint Susannah Loftis (my wife) and Pleasant A Loftis executrix and executor to this my last will and testament
      In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand this 11th day of February A.D. 1838.
