John A. Crain,71, resident of the Pleasant Hill community, died suddenly Friday at noon en route to a Greenville hospital. Mr. Crain was stricken while on a business trip in Greenville, and was dead on arrival at the hospital. He was a lifelong resident of the Pleasant Hill community, a son of the late S. R. and Polly Ann Dill Crain. He was married to Miss Lula Stewart, who died eight years ago. For 33 years, Mr. Crain was connected with the Dobson Lumber Company in Greer. He retired six years [prior to death]. Survivors were one daughter, Mrs. J.L. Hawkins Jr., of Greer, Route 3; one brother, H. D. Crain of Greer,Route 3, and five grandchildren. He was a member of the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, where funeral services were held Sunday at 3 p.m., conducted by the Rev. Ed Hood, the Rev. W. Y. Henderson, Dr. J. Dean Crain and the Rev. Beaufort Crain. Interment will be in the family plot of the church cemetery. Pallbearers met at the church Sunday at 2:45 p.m: Elmer and Lamarr Suddeth, Thurmond and J. L. Crain, Harper D. and Ansel Hawkins. The following composed the honorary escort and metat the church at 2:45 p.m: B. B. Waters, Sr., Fred L. Crow, Allen andVernon Hawkins, Bill Drace, Oliver G. Wood, J. L. Hawkins Sr., TheronCrain, A. L. Arms, Fred Suddeth, Conway Johnson, Holton Morrow, Will Stokes, H. L. Suddeth, Edgar Mitchell, C. C. Hawkins and Irvin Forrester. After 3 p.m. Saturday, the body was at the home. It was placed inthe church Sunday at 2 p.m.
