Daniel Bennett married Mary Holsclaw, apparently in of Fauquier Co., VA. They were members of the Carter's Run Baptist Church. In 1775 Daniel and Mary deeded away land in Culpepper Co., Virginia that had been left Mary by her father, John Holtzclaw. They are referred to in the deed as being of Fauquier Co. Daniel witnessed a deed on 4 August 1779 in Culpepper Co., suggesting that he lived in Culpepper at that time. Daniel and Mary appear to have moved to Shelby Co., KY., where Daniel Bennett is shown on tax lists in 1795 with 1 tithable.
Peter Hitt kept an ordinary or general store in Fauquier County, and his account book is still extant. The original is in the Warrenton Library, but a photostatic copy is in the library of the Virginia Baptist Historical Society at the University of Richmond. It indicates that he was a prominent member of Carter's Run Baptist Church. Most of the records, in which he apparently mingled contributions to the church with his own accounts at the store, appear to be from the 1770's and 1780's, though a few are earlier. Joseph Hitt and Henry Hitt are mentioned in the accounts (apparently his brothers); also "A. Holtzclaw" (apparently his son-in-law, Archibald Holtzclaw, b. 1764) and Daniel Bennett (Archibald's uncle-in-law, who married Mary Holtzclaw). A Joseph Barnett is mentioned in the will of Peter Hitt.
