Notes - Posted by: Thomas Bennett Email: bennett@tecinfo.com Can anyone help me with this Stephen Bennett? Copied from 'A History of Chickasaw County Mississippi': 'Stephen Bennett, Sr. (b. in Virginia between 1744-1748)went over to what is now Sullivan Co., TN by 1784 and was an aid tohis cousin Jack (John) Sevier in organizing the new state of Tennessee. John Sevier served as governor of the new state (1796-1801, 1804-1809) In 1765, Stephen Bennett, Sr. had married Griselle (Gensey) Wade. After his stint in the Rev. War and his experiences with his cousin John Sevier in TN, he moved his family into the Pendleton area of South Carolina (in present-day Anderson Co., S.C. From there he moved his family to Pittsylvania Co., GA (note: not found in current map of GA, possibly present day Stephens Co., GA), thence to Jackson Co., GA by 1804. Stephen Bennett and his wife Gensey were the parents of 12 children. At least three of his children would eventually move to Pickens Co., AL. Their daughter, Gillie, was one of them.' Can anyone help with names of the rest of Stephen Bennett's children? Thomas Bennett: bennett@tecinfo.com
