Notes - The identity of Henry's first wife is not proven, but is tentatively identified as Rebecca Hawkins, daughter of Matthew Hawkins and Sarah Pinkethman. The evidence supporting this relationship is highly circumstantial and additional research is warranted. Henry Howard lived in the same area as Pinkethman Hawkins and Thomas Hawkins, the brothers of his presumed wife Rebecca Hawkins. Henry Howard also engaged in business transactions with Pinkethman Hawkins, in Lunenburg Co., Virginia, which often indicates a familial relationship. Pinkethman Hawkins married Henry' sister, Mary Howard. It would not be unusual for Henry to also marry a sister of Pinkethman. Finally, Henry's daughter Sarah named a daughter Rebecca, perhaps after her mother.
