Grant Allen is tentatively identifed here as the son of William Allen and Sarah Howard. He was issued a marriage bond in Person Co., North Carolina on 20 Feb. 1819 to marry Mary B. Coleman. He can be connected to several members of the Allen family, but the relationship is not explicitly stated in the records. William H. Allen, his presuemd brother, was bondsman on his marriage bond. Grant Allen and William Cannon appear in the census for Henderson Co., Tennessee in 1840. It can be confirmed that William Cannon of Henderson Co. Tennessee married Nancy Allen, daughter of William Allen and Sarah Howard. William Cannon and Nancy his wife of Henderson Co., TN gave a power of attorney to Robert Jones to recover Nancy’s part of William Allen’s estate. Nov. 30, 1837. (Kendall, p. 28)
