The identification of Edward as the son of John is tentative. It is based on the following reasoning. William and Ann Humphries were granted administration of the estate of Cuthbert Bennett as the next-of-kin on Aug.20,1718. Ann Humphries was the daughter of Ann Knott and Henry Mosely. Ann Knott was the daughter of Elizabeth Berry (John Bennett’s wife) by her first husband, George Knott. Thus, Elizabeth Berry is the grandmother of Ann Humphries. Assuming Edward is the son of John, then Cuthbert would also be a grandson of Elizabeth Berry and a cousin of Ann Humphries.
