      Rev. War Pension and Bounty - Land Appl. Files, microfilm M804, 817

      Pension application of Archibald Dill dated 14 May 1833 in Jackson Co. TN and gives his age as 84. It states that he served as a private in the revolutionary army in 1779 and 1780. Part of the time with Captain Oldham in NC. He states that he was born in Kent Co. DE in 1748,and entered the army in Caswell Co. NC. From Caswell Co. NC, he moved to Long Island on the Holston Rover, TN, which was then Indian country, there to SC on the Tyger River and lived there about 22 years. From there he moved to Wilson Co TN for three years, then to Beaver Creek in KY and afterward moved to Jackson Co. TN. Witnessed by Arthur Dill [son] Johnas Griffith (clergy) and Laban Loftis [neighbor and in-law] A copy of the pension application of Archibald is in HFD.

      (PR NA) = Revolutionary War pension records of Archibald Dill, North Carolina Line (National Archives) '14th day of May 1833 appeared in open court...County of Jackson (Tennessee)...Archibald Dill residing in the said county, State of Tennessee, aged 84years...in the year 1779....was drafted in Caswell County, N.C... Applicant was born in the state of Delaware, Kent County in the year 1748. The record of his age was in his father's prayer book, which is somewhere in the State of South Carolina, but he does not know where it is. From Caswell County, North Carolina he moved to Long Island on Holston River, Tennessee, which was then in Indian country, there to South Carolina on Tyger River and lived there about twenty-two years. From there he moved to Wilson County, Tennessee where he lived three years. Then he moved to Beaver Creek in Kentucky and afterward moved to Jackson County, Tennessee where he now lives...(again this was in 1833) Signed, Archibald Dill (HisMark)'

      (PRL)Polly Rutledge Letters. These are reproduced in the book LOFTIS AND THE DESCENDANTS OF LABAN LOFTIS. Polly (Dill) Rutledge, Archibald Dill's daughter, wrote: 'State of Illinois, Fulton County AD 1839, February the 24... I will inform you that I left Stephen Dills last Oct the 23 1838 and I have not heard from them since on my Estate account.I am now living about 40 mi(les) from them. I will inform you that Matison Galion (Polly's son-in-law, 1st husband of Elizabeth (Rutledge)(Galion) Dill) is a living in Mc(Donough) County at this time & I have not seen nor heard of them since last Oct 23, 1838 & I will inform youthat my father & sister Anny lives at Stephen Dills & I have not heard...(you get the idea...Stephen Dill was living in McDonough County, Illinois. Polly was, at this time, living near her late husband's (Benjamin Rutledge) brother, William Rutledge in Fulton County, Illinois.) Sometime between 7 September 1837 and 23 Oct 1838 Archibald Dill had moved from Jackson County, TN to McDonough County, IL)

      1812 Archibald Dill is listed on the 'voters list' in Jackson County,Tennessee.
      1820 Archibald Dill is APPARENTLY the elder (which ever one that is) of the two Arthur Dill's listed on the Jackson County, Tennessee census. His son Arthur would have been the 'other' Arthur.
      1830 Archibald Dill is listed on the Jackson County, Tennessee census. Sons Elijah, Arthur, and Stephen Dill are listed on the White County, Tennessee census.
      1837 Archibald Dill leaves Jackson County, Tennessee and moves to McDonough County, Illinois to live near Stephen. Sources say Stephen had moved up there in ca. 1832/33.
      1840 Archibald Dill dies in McDonough County, Illinois. There is a good chance he is buried in Liberty Cemetery, Hancock County, Illinois.
      1843/1844 An attempt is started and then dropped to settle Archibald Dill's Estate from Newton County, Missouri. Stephen Sutton (son of Archibald Dill's daughter, Elizabeth) and Archibald Dill's son, Elijah, are named in these recorrds.
      1847 John and Margaret (Dill) Summers file suit to settle the Estate of Archibald Dill in Jackson County, Tennessee.
