      Rev. Elias Dodson, Jr. was baptized into fellowship of Mill Creek Chruch May 1832, attended the Academy Halifax Co. Va. 1831-32, the Baptist Seminary at Richmond 1834-35, and William and Mary College 1836-38. Jan. 1844 to Aug. 1855 he rode as Missionary Colporter for Beulah Association of North Carolina for Foreign Missions, came to east Tennessee Dec., 1860. From 1869 to 1873 he was in West Tennessee as agent for Bristol Female College, later returning to North Carolina, dying at Willington Dec. 13, 1882, greatly loved and full of honors. He hadwide acquaintance throughout the South, was a great advocate of missions, temperance and education. In his may travels he kept in active touch with his kin in Virginia, Tennessee and the Carolinas and about 1860 prepared for one of the Tennessee Dodsons a manuscript genealogy of the Dodson families of southwest Virginia.
