  Dabeny is likely the son of Benjamin Cannon and Mary East. He apparently died unmarried at a young age. In 1802, Dabney made deeds of gifts of his land and property to his nephew Benjamin Bartlett Cannon, who was only about 1 year old at the time. The deed seems to have been made in anticipation of death. The maiden name of Dabney’s grandmother Mary, the wife of Joseph East, is not currently known. However, it is interesting that Joseph East named his good friend James Dabney as executor in his will. It is certianly plausible that James Dabney is a borther-in-law of Joseph East and that his wife’s maiden name was Mary Dabney.
