Susannah Hooper was born as Susannah Walker, daughter of Thomas Walker of Nottoway Co., VA. She was married to Zachariah Hooper, who died in 1776. Zachariah Hooper and Susannah Walker had one daughter, Mary Elizabeth, and two sons, Zachariah and Benjamin Hooper. Although Susannah never remarried, she had two more sons following the death of her husband. Their names wer Woodlief Hooper (son of Woodlief Thomas) and Henry Hooper. The identity of Henry’s father is not known.
Susannah Hooper moved to Caswell Co. in 1800 to be with her daugher Mary Elizabeth Hooper, who married Sterling Gunn in Amelia Co. on 5 Oct. 1785. On the 16 May 1800, Susannah Hooper purchased 300 acres on the north fork of Rattlesnake Creek adjacent Jacob Miles and Sterling Gunn from Daniel Gunn for $600. Caswell Co. Deed Book L, p. 276 (Kendall, p. 209). Samuel Henderson’s first wife, Hannah, was Priscilla Miles, the daughter of Jacob Miles. Samuel Henderson’s daughter Polly married Richard R. Cannon, son of William Cannon and Ursley Richardson. Samuel Henderson’s daughter Nancy married Benjamin Hooper, son of Zachariah and Susannah Hooper, and his daughter Priscilla married Woodlief Hooper.
On 25 Jan. 1802 Susannah’s son Woodlief Hooper purchased an adjoining tract on Lick Fork of Moon’s Creek containing 166 acres from James Claymore. Caswell Co. Deed Book M, p. 168 (Kendall, p. 224). Woodlief Hooper, on 14 July 1812, sold 169 acres on Moon’s creek to his mother Susannah Hooper. This is likely the same tract that he orignally purchased from James Claymore. Caswell Co. Deed Book Q, p. 550-51 (Kendall, p. 326).
On 2 Nov. 1812, Susannah Hooper sold 466 acres on Rattlesnake Creek adjacent Samuel Henderson, Woodlief Hooper, Starling Gunn, Zachariah Hooper to her son Henry Hooper. Caswell Co. Deed Book R, p. 53-54 (Kendall, p. 332). The land in this deed appears to be the 300 tract Susannah purchased from Daniel Gunn and the 166 acre tract she purchased frm her son Woodlief. John Scott witnessed the deed. On 2 Nov. 1812, Susannah also conveyed toe her “loving son” Henry Hooper two slaves named Bob and Peter. Caswell Co. Deed Book R, p. 67 (Kendall, p. 334).
