Note, A Barnet Cole had sons Tunis Cole, and William Cole in Montgomery Co., MD. See, http://gwwgen.com/cole/index.htm#TOC

Tunis Cole is the proven father of Andrew Cole. It appears that Tunis Cole was born in Pittsylvania Co., VA about 1783. Tunis Cole married Nancy Cunningham in Pittsylvania Co. on 21 Dec. 1804 (bond). Nathan Cunningham gave his consent to the marriage. David Cole was surety. Catherine Lindsay Knor, Marriage Bonds and Minister’s Returns of Pittsylvania County, VA, 1767-1805, Southern Historical Press, Greenville, SC 2002, p. 17.

There are other several persons who could possibly be the father of Andrew. William Cole, Jr., and Charles Cole were also living in Rockingham Co. in 1830. However, William Cole, Jr. and Charles Cole are no longer present in Rockingham Co. in 1840. My current assumption is that they moved. In 1840, Andrew is 12 years old, so he likely would have moved with his parents if his parents moved. Becasue Tunis remained in Rockingham, he would appear to be the most likely candidate.
