    • WILLIAM BICKNELL WILL 1780

      In the name of God, Amen, the 13th Day of July in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and eighty.
      I. William Bicknell, of Amherst County being very Sick and weak in Body, but perfect of Mind and memory thanks be given to God for the same, and Calling to mind the mortality of my Body and knowing that it is appointed for all Men once to Die, do make and ordain this my Last Will and testament, that is to say, Principally and first of all I give and Recommend my Soul into the hands of God that gave it and for my Body I Recommend it to the Earth to be Buried in a Decent and Christian like manner at the discretion of my Executors nothing Doubting but at the General Resurrection I shall Receive the same again by the mighty power of God,And as touching such Worldly Estate wherewith it has pleased God to bless me in this Life I give Devise and dispose of the same in manner and form following, In the 1st place I give to Samuel Bicknall, William Bicknall Junior, Thomas Bicknall and John Bicknall One Shilling Sterling Each having given to them in Equality of what substance I had, as I now have to leave to my other children. Also I give and Bequeath to Ruth Bicknall, Anna Bicknall, Mary Ann Bicknall and Micajah Bicknall to be equally divided between them all my Household Goods, of what sort so ever and everything thereto belonging All my Stock Horses, Cattle, Sheep, Hogs and all such like, Also I give to my Well beloved Son Micajah Bicknall whom I likewise Constitute make and Ordain my only and Sole Executor of this my Last Will and Testament, all and Singular my Lands, *Misguages and Tenements by him freely to be possessed and enjoyed, also as times are so Troublesome my Son being a Single Man and I expect may be Taken to the Wars, **I desire my Daughter Mary Ann Bicknall may Act as an Executrix in his behalf till he Returns and if please God he never Returns to Act and Do as he shall Direct with what he leaves behind him, and I do hereby utterly Disallow, Revoke and Disannull all and every other former Testaments, Wills, Legaies, Requests and Executors by me in any way before this time Named Willed and Bequeathed Ratifying and Confirming this and no other to be my last Will and Testament,In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and Seal the Day and Year above written.

      Signed Sealed Published pronounced and declared by the said William Bicknell as his Last Will and Testament in the presence of the Subscribers, that is to say: John Bibb, John (X) Gregory, Agatha Staples, Josias (X) Wood at a Court held for Amherst County VA the 7th Day of May 1781. This Last Will and Testament of William Bicknell deceased was presented in Court by Micajah Bicknell the Executor therein named who made Oath thereto agreeable to Law, and was proved by the Oath of John Bibb and John Gregory Witnesses thereto, and the said Executor with Abraham Warwick his Security Entered into and acknowledged their Bond in the penalty of Two hundred pounds Specie with the Condition Required by Law, and the said Will was ordered to be Recorded 8 May 1797 Wilkes County North Carolina
