  • Notes

    • The death certificate identifies Felix’s mother as Mary Saunders. This cannot be correct. His father, James Combs, married Susannah Saunders in 1849. She died in April 1859. Felix was born while James Combs was married to Susannah Saunders. James Combs remarried in Aug. 1859 to Mary Rowland (b. abt 1843). Mary Rowland was the bastard daughter of Elizabeth Rowland who later married William Saunders. Therefore, it is possible that Mary Rowland went by the name Mary Saunders. However, she is too young to be the mother of Felix.
