  Biographical Notes from Library of Virginia Website Coleman D. Bennett, also known as Colonel Coleman Bennett, was born in Bedford County, Virginia in 1806, the son of Richard and Asenath Sena Dalton Bennett. As an adult Bennett took residence in Pittsylvania Court House, Virginia, where he achieved financial success as a merchant and banker. Bennett also earned a moderate level of civic prominence serving as Pittsylvania County postmaster and sheriff and later asa Pittsylvania County representative in the Virginia legislature for the session 1842-1843. He married first Sarah Smith Jones on 11 Dec. 1834 and second Martha Ann Parrish circa 1843. Coleman D. Bennett died in 1870.
