  • Notes

    • Micajah Bennett is the son of Peter and Frances Bennett. He was born in Pittsylvania Co., Va. and moved with his brother Reuben to Wilkes Co. Ga. by 13 Oct. 1789.

On Oct. 13, 1789, James Hammett, John Golson, and Jeffrey Early sold 63 acres on Kettle creek to William Leveritt. The land bounded Hammet, Golson and Micajah Bennett. Wilkes Co. Deed Book G, p. 136. (Davidson II, p. 87)

On 3 Jan. 1789, Micajah Bennett purchased 25 acres on Kettle Creek from James Hammett. Mary and Henry Snow witnessed the deed. Wilkes Co. Deed Book HH, p. 179 (Davidson II, p. 112).

Micajah Bennett was appointed guardian for James Evans, orphan of James Evans on 27. Jan. 1807. Wilkes County, GA Minutes of Inferior Court, 1798- 1811, p. 317 (Davidson I, p. 149).

Page 197--July 2, 1809. Petition of William and Stephen Evans that Micajah Bennett, guardian of James, minor of Wm. Evans, dec'd., be summoned to account for his neglect as such. (Davidson I, p. 162).

His returns in 1812 show payments received from Stephen and William Evans, and Admrs of James Evans. Wilkes County, GA Returns of Administrators and Guardians, Book I, 1809-1816, p. 145. (Davison I, p. 229). It is possible that James Evans was the son of James or William Evans and Sally Bennett, and grandson of Micajah Bennett.
