- The Confederate Service records for George Dill are under the name of G. W. Dill. He enlisted in the Confederate Army on 24 Apr 1862 in Greenville. He served in the SC 3rd (Palmetto) Battalion, Light Artillery, Co. H. from his enlistment until his death. This company was commanded first by Capt. Campbell and then by Capt. Holtsclaw.

The State of South Carolina
Greenville County
To S. J. Douthit Probate Judge of said County. The humble Petition of J. M. Bailey respectfully shows that he is the Administrator of the Estate of George W. Dill, deceased, and that he desires to make a Final Settlement of said Estate and obtain his discharge. He further shows that the following are the heirs at law of said deceased. (viz, Laureth C. Hanks, widow and James & Mary Dill, children of said deceased,both of whom are minors and your Petitioner is their Guardian. Your Petitioner prays that you will appoint some stated day and cite the above named parties to appear at a court of Probate to show cause if anythey can why a Final Settlement of said Estate should not be had and your Petitioner discharged.
Your Petitioner further prays that a Guardian ad Litum be appointed to represent the minors.
And your petitioner will ever pray.
This 1st day of August A.D. 1872
