  • Notes

    • Thomas F. Bennett was the son of Richard and Ann Bennett. The maiden name of his mother is not known, but is popularly believed to be Fullilove. We have found no proof of this fact. Given that Thomas’ middle name is Fullilove, this is at least possible.

Thomas F. Bennett was married a least twice. His first wife as Elizabeth Kerr and appears in an Albemarle Co., Va deed in which she is named. His second wife was Elizabeth Bennett, daughter of Peter and Francis Bennett. Elizabeth Bennett married first David Perry and was widowed when she married Thomas F. Bennett. The will of Peter Bennett (Elizabeth’s father) names a daughter Elizabeth Perry. The will is witnessed by David Perry, who we presume is Elizabeth’s husband. A marriage bond issued in Bedford Co., Va on April 24, 1784 to Thomas F. Bennett to marry Elizabeth Perry. They were married on April 29, 1784.

Thomas F. Bennett appears for the first time in the Pittsylvania Co., Va tax list in 1785. He remained there until his death in 1806. He appears in the 1806 tax list for Pittsylvania Co., Va as “Thomas F. Bennett dec’d.”

Thomas F. Bennett acquired two pieces of property in Pittsylvania Co., Va on the same day. On April 20, 1789, he purchased 300 acres on the branches of Staunton River from William Hunt and his wife. Pittsylvania County, Virginia, Deed Book 8, p. 396. He also purchased 85 acres on the south side of the Staunton between Lynches Creek and Big Creek from Reuben Bennett. Pittsylvania County, Virginia, Deed Book 8, p. 384 William Bennett and Elizabeth Bennett witnessed the later deed.

Thomas F. Bennett died sometime before May 21, 1810. On that date an inventory of his estate was returned.
