In Jan. 1808, Obadiah Taylor bought 300 acres on the waters of Cherrystone Creek, a portion of which—150 acres—he sold to his son-in-law John Yates in 1811. It seems likely Taylor purchased the land in 1808 to provide a farm for the newlyweds and that the original section of the house was built the same year.
