- John was listed in the 1785 land tax list for Pittsylvania County. He was absent from the land tax list in 1786.
John Was listed in the property tax list in 1785 but was absent in 1786. His wife Elizabeth was listed in the 1787 land tax list. Because only single women and widows were included in the list, it appears that John Bennett died sometime after the 1785 land tax list was taken.
In a 1794 deed from John Maddin to Samuel Walker, John Bennett deceased is named as the adjoining landowner. Pittsylvania County, Deed Book 8, p. 489. This deed suggests that his wife Elizabeth was still alive, because she held a life estate in the land and her sons John and Jesse had not yet taken possession of the land.
