  The marriage license indicates that Susan Cole was 18 at the time of her marriage. Rockingham County, North Carolina Marriage License Index White Males 1867-1899, compiled by Linda Cardwell Vernon, publ. by James Hunter NSDAR Chapter, Madison, NC, 2000. Call # GR 929.3 N8roc V541rm at North Carolina State Genealogy Library. This age is contradicted by the 1900 census which gives her birth date as July 1860. In the 1860 Census, Thomas Combs, 30, Martha Combs, 34, Elizabeth Combs, 8, James Combs, 7, and Matilda, 4, are living in the household of William J. Corum, 27. Thomas Combs died in 1863. It seems likely that Tilla and Matilda are the same person and that the age given in the 1870 census for Tilla is incorrect. William J. Corum was the son of Robert Lawson Corum, Sr. and Sarah Cole.
