      This indenture made and entered into this 31 day of January 1845 between William M. Bennett Executor of John Bennett Dec'd late of the County of Pittsylvania of the one part and William Lyon of the said County of the other part. Witnesseth, that the said Wm. M. Bennett Executor as aforesaid and in pursuance of the last will and testament of the said John Bennett Dec'd for an in consideration of the sum of seventy four dollars ninety three cents paid by the said Lyon the receipt of which is hereby acknowledged hath bargained sold aliened enfeoffed and confirmed unto the said William Lyon one certain tract or parceal of land lying in Pittsylvania County on the waters of Cane Creek being a part of the land of which the said John Bennett died seized containing by survey twenty seven and three fourths acres of land & bounded as follows, viz, Beginning at a white oak with William Shackleford thence S55E 94 pl. to a stake and a new corner with said Shackleford. thence new dividing line S20W 19 pl. 6 links to a small corner post oak with Alexander Galaspie, thence his line S221/2W 34 pl. to a bend or crook in the line S25W 42 pl. to a maple at a branch with said William Lyon, thence along his line N15W 145 pl. to the beginning.
      To have and to hold the said tract or parcel of land with all and singular the premises and appurtunences thereunto belonging to the said Wm Lyon and his heirs forever and the said William m. Bennett doth covenant to warrant and defend the right and title in and to said tract of land & premises to the said William Lyon and his heirs foever from the claim of claims of himself or his heirs, the heirs of the said John Bennett deceased and all other persons whatever. In testimony whereof the said parties have hereunto sert their hands and seals this the day and year first above written,

      We William Linn and James Jones Justices of the peace for the County aforesaid State of Virginia do hereby certify that William M. Bennett a paty to a certain deed bearing date 31st January 1845 and hereto annexed personally appearred before us in our county agoresaid & ackowledged the sane to be his act and deed, and desired us to certify his said acknowledgement to the Clerk of the County Court of Pittsylvania in order that said deed may be recorded. given under ou hand & seals this 1st day of February 1845.
