    • James Frank Gilreath Sr., 93, of 1101 Jackson Grove Road, Travelers Rest, died Friday at his residence.

      Born at home in Travelers Rest, he was a son of the late Holton Jones and Margaret Lamar Barbare Gilreath and attended Travelers Rest High School. Mr. Gilreath graduated from Clemson University in 1935 with a Bachelors of Science in Agronomy. He worked in Georgia for the Civilian Conservation Corp. maintaining gardens. He was also a member of the Army ROTC at Clemson and a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps in Liberty.

      Mr. Gilreath served his country in the US Army during WWII in the Pacific Theatre in Hawaii, New Guinea, Phillipines and Japan for four years. He was a Captain in the 33rd Division of the 123rd Infantry Regiment and was Commander of Company F.

      While working in Douglasville, Ga., he met his wife, Doris Coleman Gilreath. After returning home from WWII, he and his father purchased an engagement ring for Doris. Frank and Doris were married on January 13, 1946.

      Mr. Gilreath was a member of Jackson Grove United Methodist Church. Prior to his retirement, he was the supervisor for the Farmers Home Administration in Greenville County. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and farming.

      Surviving are his wife, Doris Coleman Gilreath, of the home; daughter, Winnie Barbare Westbury of Travelers Rest; son, James F. Gilreath Jr., and wife Joan Meakin of Travelers Rest; and four grandchildren, Rev. Justin M. Gilreath, Lawrence K. Westbury, Patrick M. Westbury and Henley W. Ellis.

      He was preceded in death by one brother, Holton J. Gilreath Jr., and three sisters, Mary R. Gilreath, Blanche Henley Evins and Laura Mae Turner.

      Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Jackson Grove United Methodist Church with visitation prior from 1 to 2 p.m. at the church. Interment to follow in Jackson Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery.

      The family is at their respective homes.
