• Notes

  The 1850 census taken 7 Sept. 1850 gives an age of 40 for Deborah {Page) Scott. If the stated age is correct, she was born between 8 Sept. 1809 and 7 Sept. 1810. The earliest date is only three months prior to Whitehead’s marriage to Betsy Wright in Dec. 1809. Therefore, it seems most likely that Deborah was born sometime around Sept. 1810, which is nine months following Whitehead’s marriage to Betsey Wright. Deborah (Page) Scott is living with her husband Azariah in the 1850 census. The household includes their children William L. Scott 6, Martha F. Scott 5, John A. Scott 3, and Sallie A. Scott 1. 90 year old mary Scott is also living in the household and is presumed to be azariah’s mother. 1850 Caswell Co., North Carolina Census, Roll M432_623, p. 202. Deborah (Page) Scott is not recorded in the Caswell Co census in 1860. Howevver, several of her children can be found living in other households. In the 1860 census, a 16 year old W.L. Scott and 6 year old A.W. Scott are living in the household of John Manly, who was the administrator and brother in law of Azariah Scott. W. L. Scott appears to be the son of Azariah who is recorded in the 1850 census. A. W. Scott appears to be another son of Azariah who was born after the 1850 census. An Azariah Scott is listed in the John Manly household in the 1870 census. A 14 year old M. Scott (Martha F ?) is listed in the household of Hannah Cannon (Kennon). It is not known what relationship, if any, existed between Hannah Cannon and the Scott family. However, both families lived in the Hogan Creek area of Caswell Co. 1860 Caswell Co., North Carolina Census, Roll M653_891, p. 310, 334. It is presumed that Deborah Scott died before her husband.
