- WILL OF CORNELIUS NOELL, 14 Oct 1820
I Cornelius Noell Senior of the County of Bedford and state of Va., being infirm but of perfect mind and memory doth make and constitute this my last will and testament.
In the first place my desire is that all my perishable property be sold together with a certain tract or parcel of land. Lying and being on both sides o Otter River and in the fork of said river and supposed to contain two hundred and eight acres. Beginning at a large rock on north side of said river and bounded by the lands of James Hylton deceased and Thompson Perkins and Boothe. Also 28 negroes (namely) Will, Bob, Sam, Efssep, Harrison, Austin, Phill, Reubon, Stephen, Burgess, Washington, Harden, Nelson "Wilson, Daniel,Judah, Elice, Phebe, Nice, Sina, Judah, Kitty, Emily, Lucy, Becky, Louisa and Hariet. Or to many thereof as may be deemed necessary by my Executors hereinafter named to pay all my just debts.
Secondly, I give right my beloved wife Sally Noell the use of 200 acres of land with the dwelling house and Mills thereunto attached. And 1/3 part of residence of the above named negroes, when my debts are all paid during her natural life or widowhood. And at her death the said land, mills and her thirds of negroes, with their increase to be sold or divided as may be deemed most beneficial by my executors. The proceeds from such sale to be divided among my children herein after names. In such proportion as to make them equal. The remaining 2/3 of negroes to be divided among my six daughters, namely: Ann Cobb formerly Ann Noell, Sally Milner formerly Sally Noell, Elizabeth Noell, Peggy Estes formerly Peggy Noell, PollyMilner formerly Polly Noell, Susan Merritt formerly Susan Noell. In such proportion that all my above named daughters be made in there several amounts,equal. Taking into consideration the amount of property now in their possessionas will be hereafter named, given and bequested.
I give unto my six sons namely, Cornelius Noell, JeseeNoell, Simon M. Noell, James Noell, John Noell, and Caleb Noell, the remaining 94 and 2 acres, of land. The same more or less to be laid off and divided among them according to quantity and quality. And as Jessee Noell, Simon M. Noell,James Noell and Caleb Noell have houses on said land, I desire that their lots be laid off adjoining the're several houses. And in such proportion taking into consideration their amount of property now in their possession, as will be herein after named given and bequeathed. As will make them all equal in there amounts.
I give unto my son Cornelius Noell, two negroes, namely Jerry and Letty now in his possession. Priced at 200 pounds and other property now in his possession to the amount of 96 pounds and five shillings.
I give unto my son Jessee Noell two negroes namely, Pleasant and Martin now in his possession. And priced at 2 30 pounds. And other property now in his possession to the amount of 43 pounds 14 shillings.
I give unto my son James Noell two negroes, namely Abrahamand Phill now in his possession. Priced at 230 pounds and other property now inhis possession. To the amount of 37 pounds 15 shillings.
I give unto my son John Noell two negroes namely, Jack andRachel now in his possession, and priced at 240 pounds. And other property nowin his possession, to the amount of 28 pounds.
I give unto my son Caleb Noell two negroes, namely Joe andNathan, now in his possession. And priced at 270 pounds and other property nowhis possession 10 shillings.
I give unto my daughter Sally Milner three negroes namely,Delpha, Peyton, and Beverly now in her possession and priced at 280 pounds. And other property now in her possession to the amount of 6 pounds.
I give unto my daughter Peggy Estes 5 negroes, namely Rhoda,Easther, Melvina, Charles and Winston now in fier possession. And priced at 270 pounds and other property now in her possession. To the amount of 29 pounds 10 shillings. I give unto my daughter Polly Milner three negroes namely, Venus, Uratt and Jacob now in her possession and priced at 300 pounds. And other property now in her possession, to the amount of 28 pounds 10 shillings. I give unto my daughter Anne Cobb, three negroes namely, Sam, Rachel and Jimmy now in her possession. And priced at 330 pounds. And other property now in her possession to the amount of 40 pounds 10 shillings. And whatever shall be hereafter coming to her, the said Ann Cobb, from my said estate. To be placed in the hands of my trustee herein after named for her benefit during her natural life and after her death to be equally. I give unto my daughter,Elizabeth Ronalds, 3 negroes namely, Lucy, Violett, and Charles now in herpossession. And priced at 300 pounds and other property now in her possession.To the amount of 33 pounds 5 shillings. Charles and Lucy with their increase together with what shall be hereafter coming to her the said Elizabeth Ronalds,of my estate. I desire to be placed in the hands of my trustees herein after named for her benefit during her natural life. And at her death to be equally divided among her children bearing the same name. I give unto my daughter Susan Merritt three negroes, namely, Hannah, Eliza, Mic]ah, now in her possession. And priced at 250 pounds and other property now in her possession. To the amount of 47 pounds, 19 shillings and 6 pence. I desire that the above negroes together with what other property shall be thereafter coming to her the said Susan Merritt.
From my said Estate to be put in hands of my Trustees hereinafter named for her benefit during her natural life. And at her death to be equally divided among her children if she have any. If none to return to my said estate and be equally divided among my other children or their heirs.
I do hereby appoint my sons Cornelius Noell, Jessee Noell and Simon M. Noell also my beloved wife Sally Noell executors to this my will.Also hereby appoint my said son Cornelius Noell, Jessee Noell and Simon M. Noell my trustees. To take in possession and carry unto effect so much of this my will as relates to my daughters Ann Cobb, Elizabeth Ronald and Susan Merritt. Untill the same is fully carried unto effect as it relates to my daughters and their children.
And lastly though I hereby revoke make null and void all or any other will or wells which may appear in my name declaring this to be my only will. Given under my hand and seal this 14th day of October in the year of our Lord Christ eighteen hundred and twenty,

This Indenture, made and entered into this 26th day of May 1823 between Cornelius Noell Jr. and Nancy Noell, his wife of the one part. And Caleb Noell of the other part. All of the County of Bedford and State of Virginia, Witnesseth, that this day the said Cornelius Noell Jr. hath sold and by these presents doth grant, bargain, and sell unto the said Caleb Noell, one certain tract or parcel of land. Lying and being in the County of Bedford on the north side of Otter River. It being the tract or parcel of land which fell to the said Cornelius Noell Jr., in the division of the estate of Cornelius Noell Sr.
