| 972 | 1) John is absent from the 1840 census of Pickens Co., SC. Joshua has no males other than himself living in his household. 2) An 1842 jury list of Pickens Co., SC list John Herron with the notation 'Not found in District'. From this I concluded that John had moved away sometime before 1840. (Johsua was listed on an earlier jury list) 3) In the 1860 census, the children of John Herron were all born in Georgia. This agrees with later census records. So, it is logical to look for John Herron in Georgia in 1840. 4) There is a John Herron in Lumpkin Co., Ga in 1840 who is the correct age to be my John. 5) John married Mary Martin. (death certificate of Newton Herron lists Mary Martin as his mother). | 973 | 12 December 1809. Judith Hill petitioned for divorce from her husband Alexander Lyon. Judith Hill inherited property from her father William Hill, which was expended by her husband. Her husband abandoned her in 1795 and subsequently married Polly Smith in Caswell Co., NC. Alexander Lyon apparently had three children by Polly Smith, who he also abandoned. Judith Hill inherited slaves from her mother, which would be forfeited if she lived with her husband. The petition was denied. Judith Lyon is listed as head of household in the 1810 census in Amherst County, Virginia. 1810 U.S Census, Amherst County., Virginia., Roll M252_66, p. 260. Her household includes 1 male 10-15, 1 male 16-18, 1 male 16-25, 1 female under 10, 1 female 10-15, 4 females 26-44, and 1 female over 45. Four slaves were also listed. Judith Lyon is listed as head of household in the 1820 census in Pittsylvania County, Virginia. 1820 U.S Census, Pittsylvania County, Virginia., Roll M33_140, p. 64. Her household includes 1 male 10-15, 1 male 16-18, 1 male 16-25, 1 female under 10, 1 female 10-15, 4 females 26-44, and 1 female over 45. Seven slaves were also listed. | Hill, Judith (I3582)

In 1848, Elizabeth Herron sold this same 112 acres to Evan Nicholson who is enumerated in dwelling 345 (Deed Book F-1, Page 153). Manly Teague and his wife Milly are shown in dwelling 357.
